206/365. how do you remove hundreds of ditch lilies?
i have about a 120 feet of ditch lilies that a previous homeowner planted along our driveway. sure they’re purty ( sort of ) but i’d love to remove them and plant trellised grapes in their place. my understanding is they keep coming baaaaaaaaack.
anyone have any suggestions for non chemical-intensive ways to get rid of them?
205/365. a sunflower of jack in the beanstalkian proportions.
we didn’t plant it in our garden – it just appeared. i assume it came from one of the bird feeders that we fill with black oil sunflower seeds. it’s gigaaaaaaaaantic. it never occurred to me that you could plant the seeds ( duh! ).
i might have to plant more than one on purpose next year.
204/365. guardians of the galaxy in the treehouse movie theater ( and a brief comment about the setup )!
i mean, really, there’s to much to say about “guardians of the galaxy” on an 11 foot movie screen 15 feet up in the air with odin and his cousins and family ( and candy and popcorn ) . completely iconic summer experience. A++ would ( and will ) do again. i think guardians is now my favorite treehouse theater movie, eclipsing “the incredibles”.
it occurred to me that i never got around to doing a proper review of the projector. and i may never 🙂 it’s a little hard to tell from the picture which was shot with an aging DSLR at high ISO but the picture quality when projecting HDMI is awesome, even when blown up to 11 foot diagonal. suffice to say after a year, we’re really satisfied with digital galaxy dg-737 dreamland HDMI projector. and it’s now $156 which is $20 cheaper than when i bought it and nearly 50% off list price! the cyber acoustics speakers have fallen in price too and are now $33. so for about $200 ( plus the cost of building the screen ) you too can have your own backyard theater ( even if it’s not up in a tree )! highly recommended.
203/365. to eat, or not to eat, the homemade beef jerky. that is the question ( for a food scientist ).
a beef jerky experimentalist who lives on the east coast sent me a sample from his home kitchen. it was supposed to arrive via overnight shipping but ended up taking two days to get to me and the chill packs had long stopped chilling.
normally i’d just take my chances and eat it, but it’s moist which is giving me pause. the jerky feels dehydrated but there’s some sort of sweet and sour/honey/barbecue something or another glaze that’s making me think it could be providing a home for something that will wreak havoc on my gastrointestinal tract.
go for it?

“mmmmm. an ice cold glass of milk with a gooey brownie would be soooooooo tasty right now. waaaaaaiiiiit a minit, the expiration date is in AUGUST OMG IT’S ALMOST THE END OF SUMMER AND THE START OF SCHOOL AND THERE IS SO MUCH TO DOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!”
