a beautiful day for kayaking at jersey valley (enjoying my birthday/father’s day gift)! later, off in the distance, near the far shore we’d discover a large flock of geese which looked like they wanted to attack ( maybe nests nearby? ). we kept our distance though odin offered to video if I went closer. he thought the video might go viral.
pretty happy to be out kayaking with odin on father’s day. particularly pleased that he seems to enjoy hanging out with his old man even though he’s going to turn 13 years old in just a few weeks?!
spectacular full moon over the lake.
camp is on an idyllic, quiet spring fed lake with trout and loons in whiting maine close to the coast. it’s been the family camp for something like 70 years. odin’s great grandfather built the rock wall around the cove in the 1960s that’s still standing today.
they very much enjoyed the swim at a nice beach where the au train river empties into the chilly waters of lake superior just west of munising.
the surface water temperature maps claim the water might be breaking 60°F but it sure didn’t feel like a degree above 50°F. brrrrrrrrr.
camp is on the eastern tip of washington county, maine which is sometimes called the sunrise county because it claims the west quoddy head, which is the easternmost point in the continental u.s.. so, theoretically the sunrise first hits the shores of the u.s. not far from camp.
and why am i up at sunrise? because we’re starting the 1,600 mile drive back to wisconsin! hope to make at least 1,100 miles today.
