you all sick of hockey photos yet? good, because there are five more months of them coming 🙂
the players were getting evaluated tonight. here, odin is demonstrating his backhand shot.
i’m pretty sure when i was 11 that working my keister off in a hockey arena after a long week would have been last on my list of things to do. odin is not me.
or at least, one hopes, incrementally better. looks like odin’s team mates have all progressed with their skating skills, but even more so than in previous years i think their success in the upcoming season will depend on their ability to play as a team.
odin’s waaaaaaay off in the background in the green jersey.
it’s the start of the new hockey season! and odin’s first “official” practice as a “pee wee” playing with 11 and 12 year olds. even though he’s 11, he’s a big kid so i have no doubt that he’ll hold his own with the 12 year olds.
here he’s launching a puck into the net after running a drill. it’s still amazing to see how naturally the kids improve from year to year. He makes it look effortless to put some heat on the puck and get it up in the air and under control. Soon enough he’ll be able to direct to exactly where he wants it to go.
i can’t believe odin is about to start his 8th hockey season. i remember very clearly thinking as we were trying out different sports when he was three years old, “oh, the local ‘learn to skate’ program will be a fun way to learn a new skill. he might stick with it for a year or two. probably won’t last.”
boy was i wrong.
a sign that fall will be soon upon us! getting the rink prepared for ice on october 26th. i’ve been helping for a few years and yet i always forget how much work it is.
laying down the cooling lines and setting up the boards while praying i’m not the guy who pinches a line and causes a leaker because i’m pretty sure the other guys who have been doing this since time began will mock me endlessly in a mostly good natured way.
we walked with odin and some hockey buddies in a local parade to raise awareness for the hockey association. even though i’m losing count of how many parades i’ve walked over the past couple of years, i don’t mind since it’s all for a good cause.
because i know a guy in marketing at organic valley, we had some organic fuel to hand out along with flyers and association swag. it’s always fun to hear an ever increasing number of people proactively yell out how much they love it.
