it’s been more than a decade since i’ve lived in chicago and every so often when i visit i get a little nostalgic about the city of brotherly love. an early morning run along the lakeshore is one of those times.
also, holy waaaa, the lake level is the highest i’ve seen it in years.

as if the sediment pollution plumes weren’t reason enough to get skeeved out at the thought of swimming in the the great lakes, it turns out that new research shows the lakes have their very own version of the great pacific garbage patch consisting of tons of microscopic plastic particles that can’t be seen with the naked eye and levels of PAHs (polyaromatic hydrocarbons) twice as high as what is found in the world oceans.

it’s a little hard to tell, but the sky is actually a bank of fog that had receded a bit off the shore.
amusingly, i just realized that nearly three years ago to the day i shot lake superior in thirds.
i suppose i should continue on with the rest of the great lakes to complete the series.
