a sign that fall will be soon upon us! getting the rink prepared for ice on october 26th. i’ve been helping for a few years and yet i always forget how much work it is.
laying down the cooling lines and setting up the boards while praying i’m not the guy who pinches a line and causes a leaker because i’m pretty sure the other guys who have been doing this since time began will mock me endlessly in a mostly good natured way.
you know you’re deep in the “hockey parent” life when you find yourself at your local hockey arena helping to lay down the lines. a few layers of ice have been put down and a few more will be put down on top of the lines.
the blue line is relatively easy as it’s continuous cloth fabric, but still, it’s a little nerve wracking to get it perfectly straight!
the faceoff spots are even more nerve wracking to do because they’re painted in by hand and painting on ice is an art not for the faint of heart!
i didn’t paint this portion of one of the faceoff circles but the person who did was having a time overcoming her desire for perfection with the reality of rolling out circles on ice 🙂
i guess you could put at least that much into an in-ground pool, but holy waaa, starting at $24K! i suppose maybe if you’re a cake eater from edina you do that sort of thing instead of playing on the ponds ( haha just kidding everybody from edina ).
