i haven’t read the book ( yet! ) but was very aware of the scientific accuracy ( except the most crucial part of the opening scene! ) in it and had a hunch it might be perfect movie for odin who is really developing an interest in the geek dad review, i was convinced odin could handle the movie so we went today AND HOLY COW IT WAS AWESOME! odin was completely engaged the entire time, not just in the thrills but in the science. british physicist brian cox sure nailed it in the when he said, “The Martian is the best advert for a career in engineering I’ve ever seen.”

who knows maybe someday odin will look back and remember the movie as seminal event in his interest in science, technology, engineering and math. and if not, he’ll always have a fun memory of a great movie.

having said all that, i do think the movie poster sells the film short.
