i got an invitation to join an new, semi-regular, very casual hacky sack session that’s recently started in the neighborhood. odin was a bit skeptical that i could perform such feats of limberness, so i thought i’d go and prove that i still had some semblance of eye-foot coordination in my old age, despite not having kicked a sack in about 15 years. and you know what? it was fun! and for the life of me, i couldn’t recall why i had stopped playing. i guess it’s just one of those things that happens when you get older. time to put away childish things and all that.
as it happens, nanda, the acrobatic troup that recently performed at our local fair, was hanging out nearby after setting up for a fundraiser at odin’s school, teaching anyone who cared to listen the finer points of juggling knives and bowling pins and whatnot. watching folks juggle i remembered that there was a time, years ago, when i could somewhat non-embarrassingly juggle three or four things at once and was interested in learning how to juggle knives and bowling pins and possibly maybe fire balls. i couldn’t recall why never got around to learning how to juggle flaming balls. i guess it’s just one of those things that happens when you get older. time to put away childish things and all that.
well phooey on that! i don’t know if i’ll get around to juggling knives soon, but at the very least i think it’ll be fun to catch up with the hacky sack group and perhaps i’ll also try to get back to non-embarrassingly juggling three or four things at once.
