Beer and Beards! or the inauguration of Man Day.

last fall a group of us got together at a local watering hole and hatched a plan to have a friendly beard growing competition over the winter. my recollection is that it was originally intended to be a fund raiser of sorts to support starting a curling team, for the losing beard growers were going to have to buy the curling stones. as it turned out, starting a curling league from scratch ended up being a bit too ambitious for this season, but the beards keet growing on.

and 3 months into it, we all agreed that its only natural to start a semi-regular Man Day where we get together and do things like brew beer and grill meat and talk about manly things while itching our beards.

since the beard competition started on november 1st and runs until march 1st, we decided that our first beer would be a "biere de mars" which is traditional french "beer of march". it takes about 6 weeks to come of age so it should be just about perfect for drinking when the beards come off.

Man Day was such a resounding success that we’re definitely continuing the tradition throughout the year.
