i’ve always loved rhododendrons but it wasn’t until attempting to identify this species in our back yard ( Rhododendron mucronulatum? ) that i discovered that it’s extremely toxic and was supposedly used as a narcotic and hallucinogenic to induce prophetic dreams.

or, maybe it’s not so toxic after all? wherein lies the truth?
