we’ve had a hankering to go camping with odin but we thought it would be best to have a backyard adventure first so he could get used to the idea of sleeping in a tent.
so we pitched our tent in the backyard, had a campfire, made some s’mores and read a few chapters from odin’s favoritest "imagination" books, the magic tree house series ( #32: Winter of the Ice Wizard ), by flashlight before falling fast asleep.
he must really take to "roughing it" since he slept 12 hours in a sleeping bag on the ground in the tent ( no air mattresses allowed! ) before a noisy squirrel woke us all up.
i think we’re all ready to go out and enjoy the great outdoors sometime soon. but where?
Hey there,
I found your site and a little of your story on TED.com, he talk by Mena Trott. Odin looks so cool, what a little trooper huh!
So here’s the thing… My nephew Jake is 4 and he’s got cancer, its bad too. He’s a twin and his sister Sumalee is fine but Mommy and Daddy aren’t doing so good. You probably appreciate their position with constant hospital trips and lots of uncertainty.
Thing is I sent Jake and Sumalee a postcard a few months back and Jake especially was real pleased to get a postcard in the mail. I’m going to buy him an atlas so he can stand on a chair in the kichen and put pins into all the places he gets cards from. So far that’s Liverpool and Scotland with a couple of friends in the States sending cards too.
Then I saw your site and the postcard thing on your site and thought that seemed like a great idea. Jake’s going in to hospital this thursday to hav the tumor removed and it would be so cool to have something set up where people could send him postcards.
I want him to grow up and be a strong guy one day, able to visit all the places he’s seen on postcards while he faught cancer. I want him to live and long and happy life.
All that to say that your idea of the PO box and Googlemaps is so cool I think maybe I’ll adopt it if you don’t mind.
My little nephew and his sister would be so excited to get postcards and what memories huh!
Anyway, yay for Odin huh! Happy endings, I like those.
