day 4045 - 210/365. big hero 6 in the treehouse movie theater under a blue moon! I.

we learned last year that when you have the chance to watch treehouse movie you really should take it because the chances go by fast what with crazy schedules, inclement weather and summer zooming right along. so tonight we watched big hero 6, with odin some buddies and their parents. and yes, we had homemade popcorn and movie theater candy because IT’S IN THE TREEHOUSE MOVIE THEATER RULE BOOK!

what a sweet, sweet movie. A++. highly recommended whether or not you have a treehouse deck and an 11 foot movie screen 🙂

204/365. guardians of the galaxy in the treehouse movie theater ( and a brief comment about the setup )!

204/365. guardians of the galaxy in the treehouse movie theater ( and a brief comment about the setup )!

i mean, really, there’s to much to say about “guardians of the galaxy” on an 11 foot movie screen 15 feet up in the air with odin and his cousins and family ( and candy and popcorn ) . completely iconic summer experience. A++ would ( and will ) do again. i think guardians is now my favorite treehouse theater movie, eclipsing “the incredibles”.

it occurred to me that i never got around to doing a proper review of the projector. and i may never 🙂 it’s a little hard to tell from the picture which was shot with an aging DSLR at high ISO but the picture quality when projecting HDMI is awesome, even when blown up to 11 foot diagonal. suffice to say after a year, we’re really satisfied with digital galaxy dg-737 dreamland HDMI projector. and it’s now $156 which is $20 cheaper than when i bought it and nearly 50% off list price! the cyber acoustics speakers have fallen in price too and are now $33. so for about $200 ( plus the cost of building the screen ) you too can have your own backyard theater ( even if it’s not up in a tree )! highly recommended.

solid summer entertainment – hanging out on a 14’x16’ foot deck 15 feet in the air with odin, his cousin and his buddies and their parents ( it’s hard to tell but there are 10 of us on the deck ) watching E.T. on an 11 foot movie screen. still pretty much can’t believe it’s a thing that can happen.

people sometimes good naturedly ( i think ) rib me about why it’s taking so long to build the treehouse that’s supposed to go on the deck and this is a big part of the reason. it’s a ton of fun to sit up in the trees with friends and family and watch a movie and eat popcorn and candy 🙂

memories that will last a lifetime. some of which will probably be THE SUPER OVER THE TOP SPIELBERG HEARTSTRING YANKING MEMORIES!

day 3352: first screening in the treehouse movie theater!

First showing in the tree house movie theater!

a few weeks ago while i was hanging christmas tree lights for ambience i suddenly realized that i had built the treehouse deck perfectly to show movies on our house!

there was space for about an 11 foot screen. and as if by magic the “throwing distance” from the deck to the house is such that the it’s the perfect distance to project onto the space. so obviously this was something that HAD TO HAPPEN! SOON!

day 3352: first screening in the treehouse movie theater! II.

i quickly procured a projector and decided to test it out by playing star wars episode IV. i was just testing and i didn’t think it was going to look great without putting up a screen so i wasn’t even intending to watch the whole movie. but it looked so awesome we decided to sit outside and watch our first movie in the trees!

day 3352: first screening in the treehouse movie theater! III.

while you can see the lines of the siding, after a few minutes of watching you quickly didn’t notice them. that said, i have plans to build a screen which will make the experience even more excellent! it’s hard to see on the photos but resolution of the image is a.maz.ing! i hooked up the insanely affordable and great sounding cyber acoustics computer speakers we have in the house which made it even more like being in a theater, EXCEPT WE’RE IN THE TREES!

watching movies on the treehouse deck is, without a doubt, going to be a regular thing.
