apparently approaching peak ranginess.

apparently approaching peak ranginess.

after months of running 40 miles, doing 400 pushups and hundreds of pull-ups a week and dropping 16 pounds while building a non-trivial amount of lean muscle mass, someone described the current status of my 6 foot 4 inch frame as “rangy”.

i’ll probably drop another 10 pounds or so and continue to build muscle mass as a i train for whatever event it is that i haven’t decided i’m going to do yet.

12 miles! or almost half of a 50K ultramarathon!

12 miles! or almost half of a 50K ultramarathon!

i didn’t wake up on the first day or spring thinking i’d run 12 miles. in fact, when i woke up i thought i’d enjoy a rare Do Nothing Day with the end of the regular hockey season and no pressure to drive all around the upper midwest and sit in frigid hockey arenas. i guess i don’t do nothing very well ( which i don’t think is always a positive thing ).

i stiiiiiill haven’t committed to anything but it sure seems like i’m training for something. i could have easily ran 15 or 18 miles.

we got a bit of snow last night. i wonder if this will be my last run of the year with the white stuff on the ground.

rational irrationality.

rational irrationality.

attempting to get in miles while fighting my schedule and an impending snow storm means i had to run 10 miles today split between 3 separate runs.

3 miles in the morning followed by a 2 mile lunch run and 5 more while odin was at hockey practice in the evening.

felt great ( could have done 20 if only more time ), but i can’t figure out if this is 10 miles the easy way or the hard way 🙂

i haven’t made an official decision yet, but part of me is thinking about running an ultramarathon. and to do that i’ve got to get back up to running 40-50 miles a week which is a little rough with my schedule. so, i’m sneaking in runs when i can which is why i’m going for my third run of the day at 8pm in a hotel after traveling to minneapolis and eating dinner 🙂

363/365. pretty much begging for a slip and fall.

363/365. pretty much begging for a slip and fall. I.

the weather forecast called for 0.5″ of ice followed by rain, but what fell last night was mostly sleet.

now, with 30F temps, it makes for a sloppy, soaking, cold mess of a 6 mile run even if i try to stick to running in tire tracks on the side streets.

i’ve learned the hard way that these conditions are just right for a slip and fall after your feet get a good soaking in icy water, start to go numb and your shoes get sleet packed into the treads.

363/365. pretty much begging for a slip and fall. II.

and to make matters worse, i have to run the last mile on top of this crap that the snow plows kicked over onto the sidewalk. it’s 4-6 inches of slippery, semi-compacted sleet.

fun times when your legs are tired and your feet are numb and there’s traffic coming at you at 45mph 😢

thankfully, innumerable slips but no falls!
