i decided to not bother with the turkey day 5k, but did get a 6 miler in today.

i like running on thanksgiving because - even more so than christmas - you get to witness all manner of vignettes. like the man spraying down the turkey-sized deep fat fryer in preparation for an extra crispy bird. or the fit man with the military haircut getting out the car as a young girl [ niece?] races towards him and another similar looking man [ brother?] looks on and laughs heartily. the couple that just got in an argument on the way over to the in-laws which explains why the woman silently exits the car and leaves the man about 15 paces behind, sulking; to add insult to injury, his pants are two inches too short. the portly middly-aged men men pacing the sidewalks in front on the houses, enjoying cigars. and, of course, kids getting out of cars, running up the driveway while norman rockwellian grandmas peek out the door.

and for an added bonus, you get to work up a solid appetite which will let you shovel in an extra piece of completely-from-scratch pumpkin pie. or two.

so maybe i won't ever get around to writing up my thoughts on the chicago marathon :-)

after taking about a month off, i got out and ran 3 miles today. i ran just under 10 minute miles, which is good for me considering the time off and the fact that i was trying to take it easy. maybe i'll get out and run the turkey day 5k on thanksgiving.

wow. some guy runs seven marathons in seven days and i can't even manage to post pictures from the chicago marathon:
