hopefully i’m not crossing some sort of ethical
boundary, but i thought you might need to be reassured that there’s
no reason to be fearful of college student’s knowledge of the
fundamentals of the democratic process.

the following is quoted verbatim from a college-level political
science student when asked to expound on the difference between an
initiative, a referendum, and a recall. personally, i think it
shows stupendous gumption and should be awarded full credit for
the effort:

“An initiative is when a president acts on a problem
that may overturn the election and the referendum takes these
problems and throws them into a fire pit. After they are all burnt
up the president the recalls the ashes and sprinkles them from a
plane all over america so that we can all have the feeling that we
are helping him over turn this evil action and problem. By the way
did you know that oxygen masks on planes contain pure O2? The
reason for this is that it makes you high so that you accept your
fate in the event of an accident. I am sorry that I forgot the
answer to this question. But at least I was able to make you laugh
while correcting all these papers.”
