an aunt an uncle sent this postcard of a common loon from – i think – machias, maine in washington county, maine. i think the portland postmark is misleading, but i could be wrong. so unless i hear otherwise, the postcard project judges will count this as coming from machias.

in any case, the the common loon is quite common in the area which is why it’s on the postcard. it’s a beautiful bird and have many fond memories of its haunting “call” from my childhood in maine.
